First Security Bank
Steeped in a culture of community banking, First Security regularly lends support to organizations that promote literacy, education and wellness. And for the past three years, the Fayetteville Public Library has been a recipient of the bank’s generous underwriting for the Books and Bites program – a youth outreach program in which low-income, at-risk children ages Kindergarten to 5th grade are brought to the library to read, learn, eat and grow in a safe environment.
As a Books and Bites partner, First Security volunteers serve as positive role models while providing informative, educational and entertaining programs to help build the self-esteem in children with socio-economic barriers. Bankers read to children, assist with food-related craft activities, prepare meals, and give each camper a reusable tote bag to take home, filled with fresh produce, recipes, food resources, library materials, and new books.
But it isn’t only the children who benefit. First Security employees agree Books and Bites is a highlight for them all. They eagerly await the announcement of sessions each year so they may determine when they may volunteer again. As one such volunteer stated: “There is nothing better (or funnier) than watching a room full of bankers and kids dance and sing every word to Uptown Funk while making butter!”
